Kudos to Alison Edie and her entire team for the submission of her Bass Connections/All Babies and Children Thrive (ABCThrive) application entitled “Collaboration to Promote Early Childhood Well Being in Families Experiencing Homelessness.” This proposal requests funding for a one-year period with a start date of May 1, 2018.

Growing up in the crack cocaine epidemic of the 1980s and 1990s, PhD student Vanessa Curlee has witnessed firsthand the negative effects that substance abuse and mental illness can have on a community. Having personal experiences with individuals that suffer from addiction, she has witnessed how this disorder can destroy families and communities and hopes to find a way to improve the health of vulnerable populations.

​Eun-Ok Im recently authored a chapter entitled "Theory of Transitions" in the book entitled "." This book is a three-time recipient of the AJN Book of the Year Award and reflects the most current theoretical advances in the field of nursing. With five additional chapters, new content incorporates exemplars that bridge middle range theory to advanced nursing practice. 

Michael Zychowicz serves as editor of a book recently published entitled "An Introduction to Orthopedic Nursing, 5th edition." The target audience for this book is the bedside nurse providing direct patient care in a clinical setting however this is a solid reference for others in the continuum of care including clinical nurse specialists, bedside care providers, nurse practitioners, educators and students.

ɫ��ֱ��’s Institute for Educational Excellence will host the 8th annual Pursuing Radical Transformation in Nursing Education Conference March 22 and 23. This year’s theme is “The Science of Learning.” The keynote speaker is . He is a professor of English and the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Assumption College in Worcester, MA.

Several faculty and staff recently presented at the Society for Simulation in Healthcare at  (IMSH) conference in Los Angeles, CA. IMSH is the world's largest conference dedicated to healthcare simulation learning, research and scholarship, offering 250 sessions in various formats, from large plenary sessions to small, interactive immersive courses. It is also considered to be the educational and networking event for the simulation world.

Michael Zychowicz and Angela Richard-Eaglin recently joined colleagues from the Durham VA Health Care System (DVAHCS) Janet Campbell and Bich Nguyen to attend a national nurse practitioner residency meeting in Washington, DC, held by the Office of Academic Affiliations, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Kudos to Victoria Goode and her team for the execution of a Collaborative Research Agreement between the ɫ��ֱ�� and National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists entitled “Ensuring Patient Safety through CRNA Knowledge and Continued Professional Certification.” This agreement is for a three-year period with a start date of Feb. 2018.
