From Policy to Plate: How Government Decisions Shape Food Access

2-12-26 - 4:30pm to 2-12-26 - 5:35pm

What do federal and state policy decisions look like once they leave Capitol buildings and show up in communities? In this conversation, Amy Beros, President & CEO of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, will explore how public policy directly shapes the mission, capacity, and day-to-day realities of hunger relief organizations - and the lived experiences of people facing food insecurity.

Drawing on frontline experience, Amy will examine how legislation, funding structures, and administrative implementation enable and constrain community responses to hunger - influencing everything from food sourcing and distribution to crisis response and long-term solutions. The discussion will highlight how policy and funding gaps create challenges, where alignment creates opportunity, and why research and advocacy are more important than ever for those supporting food security. Light refreshments will be served.
