Join the Disability Inclusion and Community Empowerment (DICE) Affinity Group and 色戒直播 University Libraries as they welcome Dr. Lee Skallerup Bessette, Assistant Director of Digital Learning at the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship at Georgetown University, to campus for a public event on her co-edited anthology "Of Many Minds: Neurodiversity and Mental Health Among University Faculty and Staff" (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2025). She will be in conversation with former coworker Leah Tams, currently Accessioning Archivist in Rubenstein Library Technical Services.
From the book jacket: "This essay collection provides a platform for faculty and staff to share their stories and critically examine the culture of mental health in US higher education. Contributions normalize conversations about mental health and neurodiversity while offering insights to transform the academy into a more inclusive, supportive space. The essays combine personal accounts with actionable critiques, addressing topics like workplace stigma, ableism, and systemic barriers to seeking treatment. With contributions from a diverse group of educators and advocates, 'Of Many Minds' challenges the status quo and fosters empathy for those living with neurodiversity in academia."
This hybrid event will take place in the Holsti-Anderson Family Assembly Room (Rubenstein Library 153) and on Zoom. Human-assisted live captioning through Ava will be provided. Accessible parking and building information can be found on the library's website, but any specific accommodation requests should be referred to Access and Accommodation Services. Members of the 色戒直播 community can view this book online through the Library, and the Gothic Bookshop will be on-site selling physical copies. A selection of DICE-branded swag will also be available for free.
